Biography
Dianne Martia is an award-winning mixed media artist whose work draws inspiration from many realms including nature and science. Her art career began at the age of 6 after receiving a set of oil paints and an easel as a gift. Throughout her youth she attended art classes at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art where her love of art flourished.
Dianne graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Art degree in Graphic/Fine/Craft Arts from Columbia College Chicago. During that time she studied under Ed Paschke, Phyllis Bramson, Fred Berger, and Vera Berdich. She then studied medical illustration at the University of Illinois and earned a Master of Associated Medical Sciences degree in Biocommunication Art.
Dianne’s personal style reflects elements of tonalism and abstraction. She works primarily with acrylic, and oil with cold wax medium, often adding other media such as colored pencils, charcoal and graphite. She also created a field sculpture on 5 acres of farmland, which could only be seen from an airplane. She teaches workshops, has served as juror and judge for several art exhibits, and facilitated an art studio and media lab for adults with intellectual and developmental challenges. Her work is in private and corporate collections.
